Invited by CATAS-RRI Dr. Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir, Director of Advanced Biotechnology and Breeding Center, Malaysian Palm Oil Board, visited CATAS -RRI on 20-22 October 2016. He gave a presentation entitled: “Genetic Engineering of Oil Palm--Targets and Challenges” and made a visit to CATAS-RRI tissue culture lab and oil palm field for experiment and conservation. A group discussion was then made to understand both sides in research and development to seek possible collaboration. CATAS-RRI scientists gave high comments to the presentation given by Dr. Ahmad Parveez, and asked numerous questions to which satisfactory answers were given. The presentation and discussions helped CATAS-RRI scientists to have a good picture of the progress of oil palm genetic transformation, and problems and methods to solve them, which can be a good reference for oil palm tissue culture and rubber genetic transformation in CATAS-RRI. The presentation and the discussion were chaired by Professor Zhou Jiannan, the Senior Officer for International Cooperation of the institute. The visit is believed to benefit both the CATAS-RRI and Dr. Ahmad Parveez, and possibly will lead to an initiation of future collaboration.
