Invited by CATAS-RRI, Dr. Ravigadevi Sambanthamurthi, former director of Advanced Biotechnology and Breeding Center of Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), a Malaysian oil palm top scientist, visited China on 5-11 September 2016 and gave presentations on biotechnology, breeding and value addition to the oil palm industry on 7 September, informing CATAS-RRI scientists the recent research and development of oil palm in the world, especially commercializing of biotechnology. A heated discussion then was made about successful mining of the oil palm genome sequence which was published by her team. Four papers related to oil palm were published in the journal Nature. She shared her experience with CATAS scientists that patience and team work are the most important factors to success.
