Invited by CATAS-RRI Dr. Kelly Maribel Monja Mio visited CATAS-RRI between 20-30 November 2016. She, a TCL expert for Agave, gave her presentation on the thin cell layer (TCL) for tissue culture and advised scientists of RRI, CATAS who had practiced in thin cell layer culture of rubber trees for months. This technology will be very helpful to improve the inducing frequency of somatic embryos from leaf tissues or other explants for tissue culture of rubber trees. Graduated from and once worked in Yucatan Center for Scientific Research, Mérida, Yucatán, México. Kelly’s PhD thesis was entitled Somatic embryogenesisof Agave in temporary immersion bioreactors. Her visit was very fruitful. Both sides shared their experiences and discussed possible collaboration in the future.
