On 21 June 2016, Dr. Celestine E. Ikuenobe, Director of The Nigerian Institute For Oil Palm Research (NIFOR) and his colleague Dr. Osayande L. Ihase visited the Coconut Research Institute (CRI), CATAS at the invitation of the director of CRI. All scientific researchers and graduate students in CRI participated in the meeting between the two sides.
During the meeting, Dr Ikuenobe introduced the oil palm germplasm resources and breeding projects in NIFOR, And Dr Ihase introduced the tissue culture research progress of oil palm and date palm, respectively. Current research progress and future plan for Joint Projects on optimization of date palm tissue culture system and early identification of mantled oil palm seedlings, were also discussed in detail. The joint projects will further promote the academic exchange and cooperation between the two institutions.
