On the afternoon of March 25th, 2017, Peter M. Christian, President of Micronesia, met with Professor Li Kaimian, Vice President of CATAS and Professor Wang Fuyou, Director of CRI, at Boao State Guesthouse when his excellency participated in the Boao Asia Forum 2017. The two sides had a good communication about the development of coconut industry.

His Excellency President Christine introduced the status quo of the Micronesian coconut industry to the two CATAS scientists, and hoped that Chinese coconut experts could provide technical support in coconut breeding, yield improvement, plantation management, etc., and suggested to establish a cooperation mechanism.

In view of the problems of the Micronesian coconut industry, Wang Fuyou offered on behalf of CRI to support sustainable development of coconut and betel nut industry in Micronesia while implementing China’s “going out” policy.

The two sides happily reached a consensus on cooperation, i.e., establishment of both short-term and long-term cooperation mechanism. In line with the agreement CRI will provide technical support to Micronesia, and for long-term cooperation focus will be placed on the healthy development of coconut industry of Micronesia.

Li Jie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Micronesia, and Carl Apis Ambassador of Micronesia to China attended the meeting.
