Launching Ceremony of the Industrial Technology Innovation Team for Tropical Woody Oil Crops

     On 21 March 2017, the launching ceremony of the industrial technology innovation team for tropical woody oil crops of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) started in Wenchang, Hainan, China. The team is led by the Coconut Research Institute (CRI) and the principal scientist is Dr. Lei Xintao, the deputy director of CRI. Team members from CRI, Rubber Research Institute, South Subtropical Crops Research Institute, as well as invited scientists from Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Hainan University, and the Science and Technology Department of CATAS participated in the Ceremony.

    The purpose of this innovation team is to support the sustainable and healthy development of China's main tropical woody oil crops (coconut, oil palm, oil tea camellia, Macadamia nut, etc.) industry through applied basic research and applied research on breeding, cultivation, plant protection and product processing. The principal scientist Dr. Lei Xintao first introduced the necessity of building this innovation team, team structure, and research plan for the next five years. Then six key experts reported their research contents and plans in turn. After that, invited scientists made specific comments and gave some suggestions on the research contents.
