From July 30th to August 2nd, at the invitation of CATAS, Professor Keith Lindsey of Durham University, UK and Professor Zhang Xianlong of Huazhong Agricultural University came to CATAS for academic exchanges.

A workshop was conducted to enable academic exchanges between the two invited professors and CATAS scientists. During the workshop, Prof. Keith Lindsey made an academic presentation on “Regulation of Root Response to Environmental Stress in Arabidopsis”, in which he systematically described the regulation mechanisms of network signal of root development of Arabidopsis under various stress environments, especially interaction networks of the hormones such as auxin, ethylene and cytokinin and PLS peptide and PIN protein in root development.

Professor Zhang Xianlong made an academic presentation on “Analysis of Cotton Genome and Fiber Development System”. Through genome resequencing, the research team led by Prof. Zhang analyzed the genome evolution system during domestication of cotton from wild cotton, identified 93 selected region of domestication, used GWAS to identify 19 significant sites that control fiber quality traits, and found that the asymmetric selection of the At and Dt subgroups is related to fiber length and color, used DNase-Seq and 3D genome technology to identify a large number of cis-regulatory elements that were domesticated, based on which a highly efficient genetic transformation system for cotton strain YZ-1 and JIN668 was constructed.

The two presentations were found very informative and helpful to similar researches on tropical crops.
