Delegation of Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka Visits Coconut Research Institute of CATAS

        In order to promote scientific and technical cooperation and academic exchange between Coconut Research Institute of CATAS and Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka, with the support of “Project for Joint Survey and Development Evaluation of Tropical Agricultural Resources in Countries along the Belt and Road,” a delegation led by Dr. Jayantha Jayewardene, Chairman of the Board, and Dr. Lalith Perera, Deputy Director of Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka was invited to Coconut Research Institute of CATAS for academic exchanges.

On April 16th, Dr. Lalith Perera made a presentation on Coconut Industry of Sri Lanka and the Research & Development Projects of the Coconut Research Institute to their counterparts of Coconut Research Institute of CATAS. After that, the two sides had an in-depth discussion about coconut industry and made a task list of potential cooperative projects to lay a foundation for the future collaboration.

 

On April 17th, the Product Processing Lab of Coconut Research Institute of CATAS had a business meeting for cooperation in scientific research project with Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka. Deng Fuming, Director of Product Processing Lab of Coconut Research Institute of CATAS proposed a number of research projects with cooperation value in coconut processing to the two experts from Coconut Research Institute of Sri Lanka, and further elucidated cooperative research plans for the next five years, which gained general consent of both sides. Scientists of both sides also discussed cooperative research project objectives in good detail, focusing on  fresh coconut meat preservation, coconut flower sap collection, and coconut oil processing technology development.

 

On the final business meeting, the two sides reached preliminary agreement in scientific research cooperation. In the next step, the two sides will further refine the contents of the cooperation and next five-year plan, including specific projects that each party needs to undertake. After the meeting, the delegation of Sri Lanka also visited Hainan Jiarunbao Food Co., Ltd., the coconut milk producing company, and Hainan Chunguang Foodstuff Co., Ltd., the coconut candy producing company.

 

It was the second time that Dr. Lalith Perera as the expert to visit China. In the recent years, Coconut Research Institute of CATAS also sent experts to Sri Lanka for study tour and exchanges. Coconut processing is the key research interests of both sides. Therefore, it is believed that the two sides will enjoy more cooperation and exchange activity to jointly promote the healthy development of coconut industry in China and Sri Lanka.

 

Wang Fuyou, Director of Coconut Research Institute of CATAS and other scientists attended the meeting, which was culminated by exchanging of gifts between the two sides and a group photo taking.
