CATAS Setting up Experimental Station in the Philippines

At the invitation of Aborigines Cooperative of the Philippines (Hereinafter referred as the “Cooperative”), during 2nd to 6th July, a delegation led by Professor Li Kaimian, Vice President of CATAS visited the Philippines for five-day investigation and exchange in integrated utilization of pineapple leaf, and jointly established CATAS Experimental Station for Agriculture in the Philippines with the Philippine Aborigines Cooperative.

Li Kaimian, Vice President of CATAS and Ms. Maria Delia Deiss, Manger of the Cooperative unveiled the plaque of the agricultural experiment station. After that both sides signed a strategic cooperation agreement and reached an initial cooperation intention in technology of fiber extraction and textile milling.

The delegation met and communicated separately with Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA), The Philippine Textile Research Institute, Fiber Processing and Utilization Lab and Aborigines Cooperative of the Philippines of the Philippine Department of Agriculture, and visited the tropical fiber processing demonstration workshop of The Philippine Textile Research Institute, extraction and processing of natural plant dyeing laboratory, the pineapple field managed by the cooperative, the processing facilities of the manual extraction, processing, weaving, embroidering of leaf fiber, and crafts stores that sell tropical fiber textile products and handicraft.

During the visit, experts of CATAS introduced their researches on integrated utilization of pineapple leaves as well as banana pseudo stems and the development of textile products. CATAS showed fibrils, ramie stripes, yarn and pure textile fabrics and end products to the Philippines counterparts, while the Philippines counterparts also displayed their products of similar types, and the two sides exchanged samples and products information materials.
