The plague of Ministry of Agriculture Germplasm Repository of Oil Palm is unveiled on December 30, 2016 for official opening of the Repository at Danzhou, Hainan, China. Attended the opening ceremony are Mr. Shi Lei, Director of the Tropical Crops Division, Bureau of State Farms and Land Reclamation, Ministry of Agriculture, China; Mr. Fu Jian, Director of South Subtropical Crops Division, Department of Agriculture, Hainan Province; Dr. Pu Jinji, Deputy Director, Science and Technology Division, CATAS; Prof. Huang Huasun, Director, Rubber Research Institute, CATAS. This oil palm germplasm repository has been built by CATAS Rubber Research Institute (CATAS-RRI) since 1998 when CATAS-RRI started its collection of oil palm germplasm from China and other tropical countries. The germplasm repository covers a land area of 25 ha and accommodated more than 300 accessions of African and American oil palm. It is the largest repository with most abundant resource of oil palm in China. Some varieties and elite clones were selected from the collection.
