On September 14th,2017, CATAS and the Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences jointly held the first China - ASEAN countries agricultural science and technology exchanges and cooperation Symposium in Nanning, the theme was on science and technology cooperation and sustainable agriculture innovation and development. Mr. Long Shi Feng, deputy secretary of Guangxi province, Dr. Pham Van Toan, vice President of Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Pr. Li Kaimian, vice president of CATAS, attended the meeting. Representatives of officials, experts and entrepreneurs from China and ASEAN countries discussed together the position and role of agricultural technology in the sustainable development of agriculture, and the current situation, trend and prospect of agricultural technology development in China and ASEAN countries.
The meeting cleared that ASEAN countries is the priorities of "Belt and Road Initiative" initiative of China, Chinese - ASEAN countries agricultural science and technology cooperation has been in accordance with the ASEAN countries concern, and benefit the public interest and the people's livelihood.
Pr. Li Kaimian expressed that CATAS will be as always to strengthen agricultural science and technology cooperation with ASEAN countries, through a joint laboratory or research and technology transfer center to promote the academic exchange, scientific and technological innovation, and will actively promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields of science and technology development and personnel training.
This symposium had a total of 4 keynote reports, 36 special reports in total. CATAS experts presented the special reports on China tropical agriculture international cooperation under “The Belt and Road initiative ", China cassava industry international cooperation and ASEAN countries tropical plant protection science and technology exchange and cooperation.
