CATAS selected the first hermaphroditic variety of downy grape（Vitis heyneana Roem. et Schult）"Yeniang No.2", which is drought resistant and barren tolerant, has strong ability of vegetation restoration and soil and water conservation, and is very suitable for growing in rocky desertification area. In order to improve fruit quality and reduce labor intensity, CATAS has promoted and planted new varieties in rocky desertification areas of Guangxi, developed formulated fertilization, green prevention and control of diseases and insect pests, ecological frame light pruning, integrated water and fertilizer management and other technologies, summarized and formed a set of ecological cultivation technology of downy grape. At the same time, with downy grape as raw material, CATAS have developed a series of products such as wild downy grape wine and beverage, which has formed a complete industrial chain covering seedling, cultivation and processing links. Developing downy grape industry in rocky desertification area of Guangxi, under the ecological environment condition of not competing with grain for land, the output value per mu is more than 2000 yuan, which is 3-4 times of the benefit of corn and soybean. It can achieve double harvest of rocky desertification control and economic benefit, and provide scientific and technological support for solving regional poverty problem and improving regional ecology.
