Headed by Mr. Somkuan Na Lampang, Director of Land Development Regional Office, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, a Thai delegation of 4 officials and experts visited CATAS-RRI on March 31, 2017. A brief seminar, chaired by Prof. Zhou Jiannan, was held at the CATAS-RRI Meeting Room, and a presentation titled Soil Management and Fertilization in Rubber Plantations was given by Assoc. Prof. Wang Wenbin, a CATAS-RRI soil scientist. Soil management in paddy and banana field was also offered in the presentation. A heated discussion was followed right after the presentation. About 20 participants attended the seminar. After the seminar the Thai delegation paid a field visit to the rubber plantations of the CATAS Experiment Farm, where soil management is demonstrated by CATAS-RRI in the immature and mature rubber plantations.
The Thai delegation was very interested in the soil management practice in the rubber plantations, such as leguminous cover crops, fertilizer pit, mulching, etc, and raised numerous questions in soil management and fertilizer application based on foliar and soil diagnosis. They shared their experience and expressed their willingness of further contact with CATAS-RRI soil scientists. A researcher from the Thai Rubber Authority, who has been studying for PhD program for the fourth year in CATAS, was also in the company of the Thai delegation during the visit.
