Invited by CATAS-RRI Dr. David Cahill, Professor and Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, Deakin University, and Dr. James Edward Rookes, School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Deakin University visited CATAS-RRI during 26 November to 2 December 2016. They gave presentations on nanoparticles and their application in agriculture, methods for reducing Phytophthora cinnomomi in Australia and an overview of research areas and topics within the faculty. Soon after a field visit to rubber plantations, oil palm collections and tropical botanical garden, both scientists from Deaking University and RRI of CATAS discussed the possible use of nanoparticles in rubber industry, such as use of nanotubes in simulation of laticiferous vessels for latex flow in place of conventional latex harvest, in encapsulation of trace elements or macro elements in fertilizer preparation, and so on. Further collaboration was also explored between Deaking University and CATAS member institutes apart from the Rubber Research Institute.
