Tissue Culture of Rubber Trees through Secondary Somatic Embroygenesis

Author:Rubber Research Institute From:Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences Date:2017-09-12 Hits:
A novel technique for tissue culture of rubber plants through secondary somatic embryogenensis have been developed by CATASRRI. Anther-derived calli of rubber tree are induced into cotyledonary primary embryos which are then cut into small fragments and induced into secondary embryos by repetitive secondary embryogenesis, and the secondary embryos finally regenerate into self-rooted plantlets. Reyan 93-3-97, RRIM 600 and PR107, the most favourable clones in China’s rubber plantations at present, have been successfully micropropagated through secondary embryogenesis throughout the year without budding and give a high success rate after transplanted into the field. Secondary embryogenesis-based self-rooted plants have been released as planting materials for commercial use like other budded plants, and rubber plantations have been established with such self-rooted planting materials in Hainan, Yunnan and Guangdong provinces.
