Important progress made by EPPRI scientists in rubber tree root diseases control

     Recently, Professor Chunping He led her team to travel to Hainan and Yunnan rubber plantations for the check of rubber tree root disease prevention and controlling effects in their experiments applied with their invented chemical "Genkang"(Root health). Among the 50,000 treated trees suffered from root disease, over 78% or more of them showed promising controlling effects, while the long-term fixed-point observation plots indicated highly stable control effect.

      The rubber trees with root disease were treated between 2009 and 2015. According to the results, Professor He believed that their progress in rubber tree root disease prevention and control would completely change the present situation relying on a single chemical (Tridemorph) in prevention and control of rubber root disease, and pesticide consumption would greatly reduce, for the green rubber tree root disease prevention and control with Genkang would provide a strong technical support.

       The " Genkang" compound formulation is an effective, low-toxicity and low cost chemical. It has the effects of prevention, treatment and eradication of root diseases caused by high basidiomycetes on rubber trees and other crops. It is very convenient to use and could save 50% labour input while the coast of Genkang is only 35% as that of Tridemorph. At present, " Genkang" has been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture for pesticide field efficacy test. Patent application of the formulation has been filed as well.

      Root disease is one of the three devastating diseases of rubber tree. This disease is harmful to the collar, causing the collar to rot and the plant to die out. The loss due to root disease is huge. It is an important biological factor that hampers the increase of rubber production in China. For a long time, domestically the control of root disease mainly take the way of trench isolation and treating the root diseased-tree by chemical drenching. However, trench isolation can only play the role of prevention of the disease from spreading to neighbouring healthy trees, while can do nothing with the root diseased tree, and time-consuming as well. Chemical drenching of the root diseased tree depends on a single chemical Tridemorph with high cost and reducing control effects although in the early years the control effect is good. Therefore

     Compound formulation new chemical “Genkang” can play a big role in rubber tree root disease prevention and control.
