CATAS parses banana T genome and discovers new mechanism of fruit ripening

Author:Tropical Crops Genetic Resources Institute From:Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences Date:2022-09-05 Hits:

Recently, the research team of germplasm conservation from Tropical Crops Genetic Resources Institute of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences has made new progress in the identification of banana resources. The research has completed the assembly of banana t genome and identified the main components of karat banana through multiomics, revealing the genomic basis of the non respiratory jump characteristics of fruit development.

Karat banana belongs to fe'i banana and is rich in carotenoids, vitamin B2, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, 4 '- hydroxy-5,7-dimethoxyflavone and other nutrients. After identification, the genotype of karat banana was TTT (2n = 3x = 30). On the basis of genome assembly, metabolomics and transcriptomics were integrated to analyze the changes of hormones and key developmental regulatory genes at various stages of fruit development, revealing the fruit ripening characteristics of non respiratory climacteric type dominated by abscisic acid and the genetic basis for enrichment of carotene and vitamin B2 in karat banana fruit. This study provides an important data basis for the identification of specific banana germplasm resources and the cultivation of nutrient intensive new varieties.

The relevant research results were published online in BMC biology under the title of "the Musa troglodytarum L. genome provides insights into the mechanism of non climactic behavior and enrichment of carotenoids". Researcher Xu Li of the Institute of quality information of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences is the corresponding author of the paper, and researcher Li Zhiying and assistant researcher Wang Jiabin are the co first authors. The research was supported by the national key R & D plan, the key R & D plan of Hainan Province, and the basic scientific research business expenses of central scientific research institutions.
