In order to help Sri Lanka to improve the production level of tropical fruits for promoting agricultural economic development, with the support of the China-FAO-Sri Lanka South-South Cooperation Project, CATAS as the FAO Reference Center for Tropical Agriculture Research and Training recently dispatched 10 tropical agriculture experts to Sri Lanka for a two-year technical assistance mission. Chinese tropical agriculture experts will collaborate with the Sri Lankan agricultural department to establish fruit demonstration farms through practical field training, improve post harvest processing, marketing, and commercialization of selected fruit varieties, and focus on promoting the productivity, yield, and value chain commercialization of the three main local fruit crops of bananas, mangoes, and pineapples, in order to improve the production and commercialization of the Sri Lankan fruit value chain, to improve the quality of these fruits and their value in the global market.
