CATAS Hosts International Exchange on Tropical Agricultural Science, Technology, and Industry Cooperation

June 11,2025  The International Exchange Event on Tropical Agricultural Science, Technology and Industrial Cooperation, co-hosted by the International Cooperation Office of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) and the International Cooperation Working Committee of the Chinese Society of Tropical Crops, was successfully held in Haikou. Representatives from domestic political, scientific, educational, and enterprise institutions attended the event, including the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province, Huazhong Agricultural University, Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Chunguang Food, and SINOMACH Hainan. In addition, over 80 Chinese and foreign representatives from countries such as the Solomon Islands, Nigeria, India, and Liberia participated.

In his opening speech, Li Jihua, Vice President of CATAS, emphasized the important role of tropical agriculture in global food security and sustainable development. He stated that CATAS is willing to share green technologies and industrial experience with partners from all countries, jointly address challenges such as climate change under the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and South-South Cooperation, and promote high-quality development of tropical agriculture.


Hon. Franklyn Derek Wasi, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Solomon Islands, spoke highly of CATAS’ achievements in the field of tropical agriculture and its support for Pacific island countries. He particularly thanked CATAS for providing technical assistance and talent training in the coconut and cassava industries, which have effectively promoted the upgrading of local agricultural industrial systems. He pointed out that the collaborative exploration between the two sides in areas such as climate-smart agriculture and sustainable livestock farming will provide key technical support for island countries to cope with climate change and enhance food security.


Domestic and foreign experts as well as enterprise representatives exchanged views focusing on cutting-edge tropical agricultural science and technology and industrial innovation. Their discussions covered key areas such as the innovative utilization of superior germplasm resources, the research and development of intelligent agricultural equipment, and the intensive processing of characteristic agricultural products. They also showcased the latest research results and practical cases, offering important insights for deepening science, technology, and industrial synergy under the Belt and Road Initiative.

This exchange event effectively facilitated the precise alignment of scientific and technological innovation in the tropical agricultural sector with industrial needs, laying the foundation for building a close and pragmatic international cooperation network.
