On June 13, during the 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, at the invitation of H.E. Paul Valentin Ngobo, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Republic of the Congo (hereinafter referred to as the Congolese Ministry of Agriculture), Li Jihua, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), held a discussion with the delegation of the Congolese Ministry of Agriculture in Changsha, Hunan Province. The two sides exchanged views on how to deepen China-Congo (Brazzaville) cooperation in tropical agriculture and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results under the new situation of China-Africa cooperation.

Discussion and Exchange

Minister Ngobo spoke highly of CATAS for its long-term presence in the Republic of the Congo and its important contributions to improving the local agricultural science and technology level and production capacity. Based on the actual needs of agricultural development in the Republic of the Congo, he put forward four specific expectations for cooperation: First, strengthen on-site technical training for producers in major agricultural production areas; second, provide technical guidance on crop seed production and preservation; third, support the development of the cassava flour processing industry to meet the staple food needs of 90% of the country's population; fourth, improve the ability of Congolese agricultural scientists and technicians to operate instruments and equipment.

Vice President Li Jihua responded positively to Minister Ngobo's cooperation proposals. He stated that CATAS will actively implement the Beijing Action Plan of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and continue to promote the construction of the China-aided Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center in the Republic of the Congo. The two sides also exchanged opinions on the priority areas and cooperation models for China-Congo (Brazzaville) tropical agricultural science and technology cooperation in the next five years.

Representatives from the Embassy of the Republic of the Congo in China and the Women's Federation of Hunan Province attended the talks.
